Winged Victory of Samothrace Sculpture Replica, Ancient Greek Art

Winged Victory of Samothrace Sculpture Replica of the Nike of Samothrace, dated to around 190 BC. The original marble sculpture depicts Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, with wings spread, standing on the prow of a ship.

The original sculpture stood in the Sanctuary of the Great Gods on the island of Samothrace in the Aegean Sea. It is an example of Hellenistic sculpture, noted for its rendering of movement and drapery. The right wing was missing at the time of discovery and was later reconstructed.

Discovered on Samothrace in 1863, the original is held at the Louvre in Paris, where it stands at the top of the Daru staircase.
