Standing only about 11 centimeters tall, the original limestone figurine was created around 30,000 years ago and discovered near Willendorf in Austria in 1908. The small figure is remarkable for her strongly emphasized breasts, abdomen, and hips, while her face has not been defined.

The original meaning of the figurine remains unknown. Her pronounced female forms have inspired interpretations involving fertility and motherhood, though none can be established with certainty. Even the name Venus is a modern designation, referring to the Roman goddess of love.
