Katsushika Hokusai (1760 to 1849) was a leading artist of the Edo period in Japan. Fine Wind, Clear Morning, known as Red Fuji, comes from his series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, created around 1830 to 1832. The print shows Mount Fuji glowing red in early morning light beneath a sky of scattered clouds. It stands beside The Great Wave off Kanagawa as one of the most recognized works in the series.
