Collection: Dali Magritte | Surreal Dreams

Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte were painters of the 20th century who created images born out of our dream state. The paintings are unusual combinations of improbable figures such as an elephant with very skinny legs or a fish and woman combined into one body. They are associated with the Surrealism movement. We have also included several pieces from Giuseppe Arcimboldo from the 16th century who painted some clever portraits in the Hapsburg court out of sea life or books. The stacked items formed the portrait. Although his time is long before Surrealism, he echoes their interest in the improbable connections of objects.
